I think everyone who saw the guy drop the drinks was in shock. When you are doing that kind of work, I imagine the consequences of such a mistake could be terrible.
Yes, cash you can get more of easily. I actually had my phone stolen a second time in Ecuador (different circustances). I ran after the guy yelling "cien dólares, doscientos dólares." I knew it was going to be such a hassle replacing the phone. But he was much faster than me and was long gone.
I felt totally safe almost everywhere in Colombia. People are so nice and helpful in Colombia. But I think the parade was just a good opportunity. And there are thieves all over the world!
This was our first Pride. We lived in Atlanta so many years but I always thought it would be a pain to get to the celebration (public transportation and parking-wise). I'm really glad our school wanted to go. It was lots of fun until the phone thing. Going to Pride in a country outside the US was really special.
I have to remember that these thieves are good. It's their profession. They are always looking for an opportunity.
Good title! I kept wondering what was going to be taken and when.
Sorry you lost your phone. And also glad you seem to have taken it in stride.
I had a camera taken on a New York subway. I had a similar response. I had been careless with the camera. I hated to lose it. But I saw immediately I should have carried it in a different way. It was so tempting clipped to the outside of my bag.
And I have been to many a Pride and loved them all!
Sorry about your phone :( My last pickpocketing experience was in Barcelona sadly but it's much more annoying to lose technology than just cash.
I felt so bad for the guy who dropped all the drinks!!
